This scene is taken from the movie adaptation of Anthony Burgess' novel, A Clockwork Orange, mentioned in Grierson's essay. The protagonist, Alex, is a hell-raiser, who has been arrested and is in the process of a sort of "psychic driving" that is supposed to rehabilitate him.
